About Mind Wisdom

Wisdom is a strong word, something which often feels unattainable. It’s a depth of knowledge and experience that can seem impossible to achieve.

But your mind has its own wisdom, it’s just we have forgotten how to recognise it.

Through mindfulness, we step back from our learnt behaviour – our reliance on thinking and doing – to focus on being and knowing, where our wisdom resides. In this space we can connect with ourselves.

Practising mindfulness is an opportunity to find self-acceptance and wellbeing. Sharing this teaching with others is very important to us at Mind Wisdom, giving you the chance to experience this teaching for yourself. You have your own insight, MBCT can help you see them.

Angela’s Story

My career began in the hospitality industry; working in front of house management I became interested in counselling, understanding the importance of communication and good relationships. I became a chef, loving the atmosphere of the kitchen. I have always felt that chefs have a privileged position to be themselves, although it can be a hard and stressful job.

I started training in counselling in 1998. Working with addiction services and bereavement support throughout further training, I achieved my advanced counselling diploma in 2005. I am a person-centred, humanistic counsellor – believing that each person has the answers they need. I have chosen to continue to focus my work on those struggling with grief.

My first experience of MBCT was in 2017, doing the 8-week program, which began my daily practise of mindfulness. This Jon Kabot-Zinn quote sums up my experience of mindfulness; “it’s a love affair with life”.

In 2019 I began my MBCT teacher training with Dr Patrizia Collard at Enter Mindfulness, a BAMBA affiliated organisation. I am a BAMBA registered teacher.

Mindfulness has changed my life, teaching me:

.

To focus on the here and now, knowing that’s where the power is.

There are many problems which will not be solved by thinking, things we cannot control. Instead, it’s important to take time to be present to gain a new perspective, acknowledging thoughts but not allowing them to dictate my behaviour.

Meet the people who make up the Mind Wisdom team:

Lorna’s Story

Having left a farming career in 2006, Lorna trained as a counsellor while working with a charity supporting young homeless people. This work pushed Lorna to focus on our universal experience of emotions – conveying empathy and passion and developing closer relationships with the young people as they grew in independence.

Communicating with honesty and sincerity has continued to direct her practise – enabling sensitive conversations around ‘difficult’ issues, and empowering individuals to find their voice.

Going on to work in adult addictions services in the community, prison, and residential rehabs, Lorna facilitated treatment programmes and qualified as a group therapist.

.

Experiencing chronic pain for 20 years, Lorna explored many options before she came to an online mindfulness course for people with long-term health conditions. Mindfulness continues to support her recovery empowering her and providing a sense of control.

Lorna is passionate about the therapeutic power of a group to transform lives through meaningful connection, acceptance, and personal accountability – she co-facilitates our MBCT program.
